Best Beaches in Dubai

Dubai has over 60km of coastline with free public beaches, buzzing beach clubs, water sports, and warm sea year-round. Here is a complete guide to where to go, what to expect, and what you need to know before you go.

Dubai's Beaches — Overview

Dubai's coastline stretches along the Arabian Gulf for over 60km. Most public beaches are free to access, clean, and equipped with lifeguards, showers, and changing rooms. The sea is remarkably warm — ranging from 20°C in January to 34°C in August — making swimming comfortable almost year-round.

Beyond public beaches, Dubai has a thriving beach club scene: private venues with pools, full bar service, DJ sets, and restaurant quality food. These range from AED 150 to AED 500+ for a day pass and attract everyone from tourist groups to the city's expat social crowd.

Jellyfish Warning (Nov–Mar)

Jellyfish occasionally appear along Dubai's coast from November to March. When flags are raised at beaches, lifeguards will inform you. Stings from the common Gulf species are unpleasant but not dangerous for most people. Vinegar is kept at lifeguard stations.

Beach Rules & Etiquette

No nudity or topless sunbathing

This is a strict rule across all public and most private beaches in Dubai. Even at licensed beach clubs, topless is not permitted.

Swimwear at the beach only

Wearing a swimsuit or bikini is fine at the beach itself but cover up when walking to/from your car, entering a restaurant, or using mall facilities near the beach.

Follow lifeguard flags

Red flag = do not swim. Yellow = caution. Green = safe to swim. Dubai's currents can be deceptive — respect the flags.

No glass bottles

Glass is prohibited on all public beaches for safety reasons. Bring plastic or canned beverages.

Dogs prohibited on most public beaches

Dogs are not permitted on most Dubai public beaches. Black Palace Beach and a few quieter stretches are exceptions in practice, but there are no official dog beaches.

No loud music

Bluetooth speakers at low volume are tolerated. Party-level sound systems are not. Respect other beachgoers.

Public decency

Public displays of affection should be kept minimal — kissing is technically prohibited in public spaces including beaches. Couples holding hands is fine.

No littering

AED 500+ fines apply for littering on beaches. Dubai Municipality actively monitors beaches. Use the bins provided.

Beach Swimwear Etiquette

Swimwear is perfectly acceptable at the beach itself — women can wear bikinis at all Dubai public beaches and beach clubs. The requirement is to cover up when moving away from the beach: putting on a cover-up before walking to a restaurant, mall entrance, or parking area shows respect and avoids any issues. This is the standard practice followed by Dubai residents.

Best Beach Photography Spots

Black Palace Beach at Sunset

The Burj Al Arab 280m offshore, framed by golden sky. Best 30 minutes before sunset — light turns orange. Use a wide-angle lens for the full panorama.

Kite Beach facing the Burj Al Arab

Looking south from Kite Beach you get the Burj Al Arab with kite surfers in the foreground in winter. Dynamic and uniquely Dubai.

JBR Beach at Blue Hour

The Marina towers lit up behind the beach at dusk. 20–30 minutes after sunset gives the best balance of sky colour and city lights.

La Mer drone shots

La Mer's bright murals and ocean inflatables make excellent aerial shots. Drone registration required in Dubai — use a licensed operator or registered device.
